If you’re wishing to be a nurse, what you need to have first and foremost is a GED or a high school diploma. That’s important, especially if you’ve taken courses such as biology, anatomy, chemistry, English and algebra, those are the courses that would benefit you once you apply to a nursing school. And if you’re still in high school, do some summer jobs at a local clinic as an assistant to the physician, which would be good experience for you.

Nursing schools differ from each other, so you might want to read into different nursing school’s programs early on. And find out which one is the best for you. And then work hard to achieve your chosen school’s requirements to you can apply. Your grades will hold a significant amount of attention when you apply in your chosen nursing school. That’s where they can see if you have the capacity to handle their academic loads to get through the nursing program which can be very heavy and laborious.

Aside from your academic capacity, your personality will be put to test as well. There are nursing schools that would require you to pass an exam that measures your aptitude and how much you’ll succeed in the program and your career. Being compassionate helps, because as a nurse you’ll be dealing with sick people who has cancer, injured individuals and children who’s under the stress of having a wound. Your ability to handle stress will be put to test as well, how you deal with it since you will be running around the hospital during your shift.

Becoming a nurse would require you to have your license before you work. You’ll need to pass the national licensing exam. All registered nurses take the NCLEX-RN or National Council Licensure Examination and the state board determines the legibility requirements for a license.
